Farm slurries, as we all know, can cause odour problems. This is due to the action of bacteria acting on the high levels of undigested food waste within the slurry, producing volatile fatty acids, hydrogen sulphide and ammonia.

Aerocover

Aerocover has been developed, as a floating cover, which is applied to the slurry surface preventing the release of odour and converting ammonia to Nitrogen gas and water.

Aerocover is an expanded clay aggregate which is coated with two polymer coatings. One polymer contains a light activated mineral which, in the presence of UV light, will capture and convert ammonia into nitrogen gas and water. The second polymer absorbs and captures ammonia gas when no UV light is available. The materials used are long lasting, environmentally safe and do not pose any risk to soil or livestock.

Summary of Aerocover odour and emissions trials.

A laboratory scale trial was carried out to determine the effectiveness of Aerocover at removing gaseous compounds (ammonia and hydrogen sulphide) that are responsible for odour problems.

The data showed that the average hydrogen sulphide removal was 94%, with 100% removal recorded on a number of days. The average ammonia removal was 78% with a maximum of 100% being recorded. The media also showed an average carbon dioxide removal OF 45% during the course of the trial.

Aerocover is suitable for use on pig and dairy slurry, anaerobic digestate or any surface that releases ammonia emissions and causes odour problems.

Features

  • Lightweight clay aggregate
  • Dual coating
  • Floats on surface
  • Irregular particle size
  • Captures and converts ammonia into nitrogen gas and water
  • IPPC Compliant

Benefits

  • Easy application
  • Works day and night all year round
  • Will cover irregular shaped lagoons
  • Provides effective surface cover
  • Environmentally friendly
  • No smell means happy neighbours

Aerocover is an effective solution to odour control and ammonia emissions and a cost effective alternative to other floating slurry store covers.

I am delighted with the Aeromixer system! After spreading 2000m3 of Aeromixed slurry, my umbilical contractor said "If Carlsberg made slurry it would look like this - probably the best in the world!" I wholeheartedly agree with his comment.
